Hadn’t heard of this before, but it fits in nicely with some of the concepts I am trying to wrap my head around in Godel, Escher and Bach (one of the books I am reading right now – although it has been on “pause” for a few weeks), specifically that meaning emerges from what Hofstadter (author or GEB) calls a “strange loop” that exists between reality and what goes on in our minds. Interesting way to express the same idea.
But a visit to the online Library of Babel should bring you to the same question the original story does: to what extent does meaning reside in the physical world, and to what extent does it reside in our minds? And what would Borges himself make of all this?
