Those of you that follow me on Twitter know that I have been toying around with what makes a CAD system interesting to younger children, specifically 10-14 year olds. While I don’t have any kids in that agre group, I do have an eight year old who is going on 12, so I though I would sit her down in front of a tool to see what she could come up with. It just so happens that she has an assignment to build a colonial glass blowing house over the weekend, so I showed her the basics and asked he to design something from some pictures
we found on another class website.
I showed her the basics in about 45 minutes and then let her go. This is the result (I added the dimensions when she was done so I know what size to cut the pieces):
Amazing, even if I do say so myself. I think I’ll be getting her in front of some more CAD apps…all the kids interested in 3D can’t go in to gaming, can they?
