As I mentioned in a previous post, I just got a new very simple (i.e. cheap) digital video camera, the Creative DiviCam 428. It’s not sold in the states, so I contacted a friend of mine who lives in Japan and asked him if he could pick one up for me. As luck would have it, he happened to be in Singapore at the time (which as anyone who has been there would know is the electronics capital of the world) so he was able to find one within a few hours of my original email.
I got the camera last Monday and have been playing around with it. It is a basic 4 function device: video, still, MP3 recorder, MP3 player. The main thing that attracted me to it was its prices (I got mine for around $160) and the fact that it captures direct to SD cards in 640×480 MP4 format. I have had too many bad experiences with tape transfers (dropped frames and the like) so I really wanted a camera straight to digital. And while I have no illusions that this will replace my Canon DV tape camera, for simple things and the convenience of having a camera everywhere I go, this will do nicely.
Well, anyway, here is some footage I captured this morning out the back of our house. I’m not sure what predator died in the Northern Kentucky area in the last few years, but as you’ll see in the video below, the wild turkey population has exploded. I counted 18, including one very proud jake.
